Wines to Sip this Spring
Feb 19th 2024
With the weather warming up, it’s time to transition into spring, which means swapping out your wine selection for lighter, fresh, and fruity bottles. Spring is for spending time outside, enjoying the nice weather, and relaxing by spending time with friends and family. Whether you’re going on a picnic in the park or doing a paint and sip in your backyard, we have recommendations for everyone. Whether you love red, white, rose, or bubbles, we have just what you seek for the perfect occasion.
Lighter Reds
It’s time to leave the heavy reds where they belong, in winter, with the thick sweaters and savory food. Spring fare calls for lighter reds that are slightly chilled, which helps bring out the subtle floral notes. We recommend sipping on Banshee Sonoma County Pinot Noir 2019, an exciting and friendly wine that has aromas of tart cherries, pomegranate, earthy pine, and flavors of sweet and tart fruit with subtle hints of oak. The finish is bright, slightly herbal, and delicate, making it an excellent choice to pair with food and a charming drinking experience. This light Pinot noir would be perfect to enjoy at an Easter picnic with friends and family.
Full-bodied Whites
I know what you’re thinking… Spring is the time for light wines and all things airy, which is mostly true, but try giving your favorite Chardonnay some love this time of year. We recommend trying Beringer Napa Valley Private Reserve Chardonnay 2019 Blanc, which is rich, vibrant, creamy, well-balanced, and expressive. This Chardonnay has aromas of citrus blossom, lemon curd, honeysuckle, and crème brûlée that are supported by flavors of tropical fruits, like pineapple, mango, and tangerine. It has a touch of oak, brioche, and apple pie spice that leaves you with a mouth-watering finish. This full-bodied white would pair perfectly with a cheese board tasting.
Fresh Bubbles
Bring on the bubbles! We all love a beautiful glass of Champagne any time of the year, but something about enjoying a cold glass during spring warms the soul. We recommend sipping on Mathieu-Gandon Saveur Brut Champagne N.V., which first has aromas of pure pear and citrus fruits, then ventilation reveals fresh almond notes and bread dough that is nuanced by mint and anise. It has a pale yellow color and is well-balanced, where acidity and sugar pair perfectly. This Champagne perfectly accompanies a fruit or flower-picking session; nothing says spring like gardening in full bloom!
Fruity Rosé
Last but definitely not least, we have our lovely rosé! Rosé is the epitome of spring because it embodies light freshness and fruity flavors. We recommend trying Émotion Méditerranée 2021 Rosé, which has a light, vivid pink color, aromas of fresh red berries, citrus fruit, and floral qualities, with flavors of strawberry, cranberry and orange zest. This rosé would be perfect to pair with a sip-and-paint event with friends on the weekend, where you can unwind and sip your stress away!
