Uncork Summer: A Guide to Summer Wines
Jun 20th 2024
Summer calls for spending time outside doing some of our favorite activities of the year like grilling, hanging out by the pool, sitting on the patio, and even attending wine tastings occasionally! If you're looking for a guide to sipping the best wines this summer, you've come to the right place. Below, we have our carefully selected summer wine recommendations! From red to rose, we have something for everyone on this list!
Our List
Picture this: a sunny summer day, a cool breeze, and a glass of Four Graces Pinot Gris Willamette Valley 2022 Blanc in your hand. This white wine isn't just any wine; it's an experience. With its juicy and ripe aromas of cantaloupe and honeydew, and a hint of fragrant honeysuckle, it's like a bottle of liquid sunshine. It's best served chilled and the perfect companion for a light summer lunch like a salad, chicken, or seafood dish.
For our red wine lovers, Pinot Noir is one of the few red wines that are best served chilled, which makes it a great option to sip on a hot summer day. Our favorite is Twomey Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2021; this wine embodies elegance and complexity with captivating aromas and a palate that harmoniously balances richness and freshness. It has flavors of black cherry and a hint of cocoa, with black tea and velvety red berries, which makes this a refreshing wine to sip. This wine would pair well with a cheese board of brie, gouda, and manchego, a roast turkey, or a mushroom dish.
Did someone say bubbles? Our favorite Champagne we'll be drinking all summer is Mathieu-Gandon Esprit Brut Champagne N.V.. On the nose, this Champagne has the aroma of citrus fruits, white flowers, honey, and flavors of pear and pastry cream. Champagne is the perfect drink for summer because it's served cold; this one should be served at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, which will keep you cool during these hot summer days. If you're looking to pair this wine, try it with one of the following: cocktail buffets, savory choux pastries, cooked cheeses, quenelles, or pasta.
Imagine yourself on a hot summer day, a cold glass of DAOU Discovery Collection Rosé 2022 in your hand. This rose is a sensory delight, with its fresh strawberry, guava, crème brûlée and honeysuckle aromas, and flavors of ripe strawberry, papaya, nectarine and mandarin orange, with hints of spiced peach, mango and watermelon. It's a complex combination of fruits that will leave you craving for more. Perfectly paired with a light seafood dish, it's the ultimate summer indulgence.
