2021 was an excellent vintage in Anderson Valley. The start to the growing season in late winter and early spring was cool and dry, and the vines produced balanced canopies. Unsettled weather during bloom lowered yields slightly and set the stage for a classic vintage. Rainfall was at historically low levels throughout the season, and a warm, dry summer pushed ripening forward. Berry size was small leading to wines of great concentration and depth. Fall temperatures remained warm, and the resulting harvest window was condensed. The majority of our Bearman Bend and Monument Tree estate vineyards were harvested in the first and second weeks in September, respectively.
While the 2021 vintage is defined by concentration and fine tannins often found in warm, dry vintages, it is nuanced by the freshness and liveliness typical of this cool growing region. The balance of elegant, forward profiles from the Bearman Bend Vineyard with the structured, spice-driven qualities from Monument Tree Vineyard come together to create a compelling snapshot of the Anderson Valley. Aromas of ripe wild strawberry, rose and cedar on the nose are complemented by supple tannins and a long, lifted finish.
