National Wine Day

May 17th 2024

Calling all wine lovers! This month has a national holiday that calls for celebration! National Wine Day is on May 25th, so we’re dishing out our favorite wine recommendations for you all to try! At Club Jeroboam we have a deep appreciation for wine, so if you’re also a wine enthusiast, keep reading to hear the scoop.

History

Wine has been around for thousands of years and is the first alcohol humans have consumed for multiple occasions. Wine has been served at parties for celebrations, important events, and even religious ceremonies. Thousands of years ago, people only consumed wine to quench their thirst, which is crazy to think about today. This drink has been used to shape the economy and reflect different cultures, and it doesn't matter what part of the world you come from; there is some connection to wine. It is mentioned many times in the bible and is a big part of trade between countries throughout history. Overall, wine has played a massive part in shaping the world we live in today.

The wine we drink today is more refined than it was back in the day. Different cultures used a large variety of fruits to create this delicious drink back then; in contrast, today, wine is only made from grapes, although there are up to 10,000 varieties today. Wineries and vineyards have become drastically popular today, with 11,691 being in the US today; 100 years ago, there were only 2,500. California is home to the most significant number of wineries in the US and is one of the leading producers of this product in the world. Although, the most famous winery in the US is Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, which estimates over 1 million visitors a year. Many attributes give the wine a unique flavor, including acidity, sweetness, alcohol, tannin, and aroma compounds produced in fermentation. Whether you're a wine drinker or not (it's safe to assume you are if you've read this far), based on the extensive history and uniqueness of the beverage, we can all have a newfound appreciation for it. So find a way to celebrate this holiday, and grab a big glass of your favorite wine!

Wine to Celebrate the Holiday

This spring, our most sought-after red wine is a new addition to the Club Jeroboam family, Companion Wines Ominous Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. This wine is a classic medium-body Alexander Valley with a slight touch of our 626 Reserve Cabernet for perfect round smoothness. It has been aged 18 months in 100% new Hungarian Oak Barrels and has aromas of blackberry, hints of tobacco, and an intense oak nose. A Spanish monastery inspired the name of this wine, and the wine reminds us of dark Spanish fruit from Cataluña with soft tannins. This red wine is perfect for a date night or someone looking for a unique but elegant taste.
