When you are drinking wine, make sure that you savor each sip that you take. Sometimes, you may be drinking a wine bottle that costs a lot of money so you will want to get your money’s worth. This will also help you to enjoy the flavors that you taste.

Avoid over chilling white wines. Many wine drinkers will buy a bottle of their favorite white and return home to pop it in the fridge. While chilling whites is important, too much cold will diminish flavors in the wine; sometimes the most important ones. Target a temperature around 60 degrees up to 68 degrees to achieve the prime flavor.

Keep reds and whites in their respective glasses. White wines need a narrower glass, so that warm air cannot readily reach the wine’s surface. Reds, though, should be in wider glasses with broad mouths. This keeps the wine warm, which can help elicit more flavor.

Read up on wine during your free time. The more that you learn about wine, the better you will be at picking new wines to add to your collection. There is a lot to know, so spend time learning when you can if you want to become a true wine connoisseur.

Use the right stemware when serving wine. Be sure it presents the best image to your guests by using sharp and sparkling glasses. If it is cracked, chipped or stained, you need to spend money on a new set.

Taste wines in an environment free of aromas. If you have food cooking, use candles or have other odors present when you are trying to taste a wine you will not get an accurate impression. Aromas will conflict with the taste and could leave you with a distaste for a wine you may have enjoyed otherwise.

Try to taste and smell every separate note of the wine. Some wines will be rich with fruity aromas, while others might have floral notes. You might even find another crazy flavor in there, like smoke or honey. Smell the wine and you can find the flavors in it.

If you need to save wine for another day, cork it and stick it in your refrigerator. The coolness in your fridge will help slow down all of the chemical changes happening in your wine. It’s best if you can finish that wine off within a day, otherwise you may find it tastes quite different than when you uncorked it.

Join a wine club if you are a true lover of the red, white and rose! Clubs feature lively discussions and great discounts, with delicious selections shipped right to your front door. You can save money, make new friends and discover your new favorite wine all at the same time!

It’s not easy knowing what wines to pair with what foods. Try different things and settle on what works.
